How do I organize the weekly worship set?
Short answer. Decide the songs and the key for each one before rehearsal, and record the pad and key alongside. During the service nobody decides anything — they only execute.
The costliest mistake is not picking the wrong song: it is deciding the key on Sunday. When that happens, somebody is on their phone during ministry.
The order that works
- Pick the songs ahead of time, thinking about the arc of the service: opening, praise, worship, ministry.
- Set each key with whoever is singing — the vocalist comfortable key, not the original recording.
- Record pad + key alongside the name. That is what turns a list into something executable.
- Rehearse the transitions, not only the songs. The moment between two songs is where a service is won or lost.

Key sequence
If two consecutive songs sit in distant keys, the transition draws attention. Two ways out:
- Reorder so nearby keys sit together (see the compatible keys table).
- Pass through a neutral pad between them, as a bridge.
Reuse
Keep the lists from previous services. Worship repertoire repeats, and starting from scratch every week is unnecessary work — duplicating an old list and adjusting takes minutes.
